Total Ammunition Management Information System (TAMIS) Certification Practice Test

What is the primary purpose of TAMIS?

To manage and track ammunition from receipt through issue, storage, demil, and disposal, ensuring accountability, readiness, and regulatory compliance.

TAMIS exists to manage ammunition as a complete lifecycle, ensuring you know what you have, where it is, and its status from receipt through issue, storage, demilitarization, and disposal. It consolidates data on quantities, locations, lot numbers, condition codes, and regulatory requirements, so units can track accountability, readiness, and compliance in one trusted system. This holistic view supports timely, accurate issue to operations, helps with audits and inspections, and enforces safety and disposal policies.

Financial transactions are handled by separate financial systems, not by TAMIS. Planning or managing weapon deployment schedules falls outside TAMIS’s core purpose, which is about the ammunition itself, not broader deployment logistics. Designing new munitions is an engineering function, not inventory management.

To record financial transactions for ammunition purchases.

To manage only weapon deployment schedules.

To design new munitions.
